And I was a little bit on the fence about it, despite my ever-growing love of my Honda 919.

That is, until he mentioned what it was.

Kinja'd!!!

It was one of the few bikes responsible for ending the speed wars between the major motorcycle companies and has the ability to edge out the Mk1 Hayabusas by a notch.

Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the Kawasaki ZX-12R.

Now, I was genuinely interested until he mentioned "Exhaust and power commander", telling me it may have not lived an easy life.

What should I do?

Exhaust and power commander should tell you all you need to know.....move along.

Tell him if he ain't talkin' ZZR then you don't wanna talk.

But seriously, the ZX-12R is a monster. Most guys ditch the stock exhaust because it's heavy as hell, and a power commander is a normal mod. What you need to look out for is cam lobe pitting and wiping. Kawasaki used some sub-par metal in those cams and they're usually wiped or pitted by the time a new owner gets them. The usual fix it to buy new cams or have your cams re-made and hardened.

just because they guy rode it hard doesnt mean it wasnt taken care of.

id do it. the power commander means he actually knew what he was doing, and didnt just slap on some pipes for some noise

How do I check it out if they were pitted?

In my eyes an exhaust is an absolute must to actually enjoy what your bike can sound like. Power commander often accompanies an exhaust. I wouldn't say that you should be worried about it just because it has these modifications. I can't think of a single rider I know who still has the stock exhaust on their bike.

Usually you have them checked when the valves are adjusted, which should be done every 7,500 miles. If the valves are loose they'll make a racket at start-up. I'm not sure what tight valves would sound like. Ask the PO if/when they had the valves inspected.
